The Yoshisada Yonezuka Memorial Fund

Shortly before my father passed away, we spoke about how much international judo had changed since I competed. At that time, expenses such as airfare, lodging, and meals were covered by the governing body for U.S. Judo. Today, athletes are often responsible for paying their own travel and competition expenses.

To qualify for the Olympic Games, athletes must earn points by competing in international tournaments. However, traveling to these events can be extremely expensive. For young athletes between the ages of 18 and 26, pursuing an Olympic dream can be especially difficult without significant financial support.

After my father passed away, I established the Yoshisada Yonezuka Memorial Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable fund created to assist Cranford JKC athletes who have qualified to compete internationally and are working toward making a U.S. Olympic Team.

My father devoted his life to judo. I know he would be proud to see this fund help athletes from his club pursue their Olympic dreams while continuing the legacy he worked so hard to build.

The fund has already supported several Olympic hopefuls. Cranford JKC also has many promising young athletes who may reach this level of competition in the years ahead. To continue helping future generations, we must continue to replenish the fund through the generosity of our supporters.
